Best Spices for Hormonal Imbalance

Let’s talk about the best spices for hormonal imbalance; which typically related to PCOS. As I mentioned before, September is the month of PCOS awareness. There are tons of articles about natural remedies such as herbs and spices that are good for female hormones. I am definitely not an expert but I would like to share what I learned from the elderly in Indonesia; who believes in the power of Jamu.

“Jamu is a traditional medicine from Indonesia. It is predominantly herbal medicine made from natural materials, such as roots, bark, flowers, seeds, leaves, and fruits. Materials acquired from animals, such as honey, royal jelly, milk, and free-range chicken eggs are also often used.” – source: Wikipedia

I was not familiar with this Indonesian traditional medicine even though I was born in Indonesia. Growing up, my Chinese family was always feeding me Chinese medicines which kind of similar to the roots, bark, seeds, and leaves ingredients but they always added things like roaches and mountain worm; which seriously gave me a fright.

When I got back to Jakarta, my sister suggested drinking Jamu to help me with my PMS pain and irregular period. Just 3 days in of drinking the pre-made Jamu that I bought from the supermarket. I got my period after being late for 1 week! As I read the ingredients and talked to some Jamu experts.

Here are the best spices that most Indonesian swear by for hormonal imbalance:

  • Red Ginger
  • Cardamom
  • Clove
  • Coriander Seeds
  • Cinnamon
  • Turmeric

I am not gonna bore you with each spices benefits explanation because there are other more credible people on the internet who wrote about it too. They also mentioned how these spices are a fertility boost! These spices are meant to be mix together with water and honey. It will be more effective to drink rather than adding it to dishes. The Jamu experts recommended 2 teaspoons with 200ml water and 1 teaspoon of honey. Drink it twice a day every day.

But, if you are similar to me; who cannot stand the spiciness and the pungent smell of this mixed drink of Jamu. I got a solution for you! Get empty capsules from your local pharmacy and fill it up! I got 100 capsules and it was so easy to fill it with these spices. It took me 20 minutes to finished and just take 2 capsules twice a day every day. Not only that it will help with our hormonal imbalance (slowly) but also helps with our immune.
