How to improve your morning mood? Are you an early bird or a night owl? For me, it’s both! Normally, I am a morning person. But lately, I have been waking up around 9 am which is not good!
I love waking up early and watch the sunrise! Back in Melbourne, I always put my curtain wide open at night so I would wake up by the sunrise’s light that enters my bedroom. It helps because it was a high-rise apartment with big windows.
Currently, I live in a high-rise apartment as well that lacks natural light especially the morning sun. I dislike waking up in a dark place. So, I need an ultimate mood booster and a positive mind every morning!
This pandemic is getting on my nerves and it makes me feel uneasy, hard to sleep and sometimes I woke up in a bad mood.
Being content and count my blessing is the key, but I found a few tricks to actually makes me wake up in a better mood despite having bad circumstances. Here is how to improve your morning mood:
1. Perfect Room Temperature
Yes, it sounds silly. Room temperature plays a big role. If you sleep in a hot and humid temperature, you’d wake up sweaty and in a bad mood. If the temperature is too cold, then you would be lazy to wake up. The best temperature is actually 22 degrees Celcius with a low-speed fan with the timer from 11 pm to 6 am.
2. Place a Scented Candle on the Bedside Table
You don’t have to light it on. Just place it next to your bed. With the right scented candle and room temperature, it will be the first thing you smell when you wake up. My go-to scented candle is something floral, greeny, and fruity. Choose your favourite scent that always puts you in a good mood.
3. Use your Favourite Song as an Alarm
I don’t normally set an alarm clock but if I need to wake up at a certain time for work, a meeting, or a conference call. Then I set up my favourite song as an alarm. Choose uplifting music, definitely don’t choose music that is too slow because you may not hear it. I chose Paradise by Coldplay.
4. Get your Favourite Bath Soap/Shampoo
If you are similar to me, you would enjoy little things like scented and organic products. I have a habit to always take shower in the morning and having my favourite bath soap, shampoo and conditioner with uplifting scent makes me happy. Not only that being clean is great, but also smell amazing is one way to improve your morning mood.
5. Prepare a Nice Breakfast from the Night Before
Whether it’s a simple smoothy, ingredients for french toast, leftover baked goods, or an elevated English Breakfast. Having breakfast is recommended by many experts for our metabolism. As you know that I love cooking, so preparing a nice breakfast for myself and for loved ones is something that keeps me excited in the morning. What’s your go-to breakfast?
6. Keep your Bedroom Organised and Clean
I hate clutter and unclean space! I have been posting a lot of cleaning routines both on my blog and my Instagram. It is very important to keep our surrounding organised and clean. Clean space equals a clean mind.
7. Get Organised with Daily/Weekly Planner
Be organised, girls! Plan your day and week ahead. Start with a to-do list like; baking, cleaning, zoom catch-up, or organising wardrobe. Have something small and big things to plan will motivate us throughout the day and the week. Maybe plan something so that we can wear that new dress that we just bought?
That’s it! Those are 7 little things that I do to improve my morning mood. Don’t forget to always count your blessings! Points to remember are; we have shelter over our head, we have food on the table and we are healthy to breathe this fresh air! Let me know what’s your go-to mood booster?
